he moves the steps , a ladder to nowhere
steadying them, with a trembling but resolute hand
heart beating fast, breath rasping
a bead of sweat careering from his forehead
vacant perplexed mind moving zombie-like
the sweet smells of a beautiful summer
roll through his mind and heavenly bound clouds
drift in an azure blue sky
an enchanting backdrop to this macabre scene
as he raises one foot towards his destiny,
reminiscences bolster his actions
her jasmine scented skin, the laughs they’d shared
rummaging through the bric-a-brac
of people’s castoffs in a car boot
and the rope is taut in his hand
serpent like supplier of an imperfect solution
he breathes, hard.
he stands at the top.
he surveys his life in tatters
the wonderful times melded with the gruesome
her soft neck exposed to his grazing lips
and the cord tightens around his throat
pulling roughly, breath rasping
the decision is made.
with a sudden cessation she was taken,
and now they will be
together again.
