earth dream

she lay,
a glimpse of heaven
warm on my side
in the shade of remembrance
of the drive through
a long, lonely road
a switchback of reality
through foreboding crags
zipped by
the cold shadows
of vacuous living.

who could have known?
only the guardian of hope
carried deep inside
balancing the insanity
of a transient tumultuous world.
an honest spirit,
quick to show
tender words
with a warming glow.
the laugh of an angel
singing hosannas

the last remnants
of bygone ages
reach out
beyond the horizon
through the trees and valleys
the wind grazes my face
now soft and sweet
the bite of former times
swallowed in our afterglow
as we lay flesh to flesh
encountering happiness
like curious kittens.

and you look up.
I delight in your smile.
your eyes flutter.
and the petals of
a dream fulfilled on earth
pass between us.
